Acer X241WSDI have said before that the monitor is one of the most important parts of your system and if you have ever edited a photo, played a game or watched a video I’m sure that you’ll agree with me.

When you’re choosing between different monitors there are a number of things to look at: the size of the monitor, the color ratio, the refresh rate and the price. Normally you can’t find the best in all of the categories with a low price but there is one company that certainly tries, Acer.

The Acer X241WSD 24″ Widescreen Monitor is an excellent attempt at providing a quality 24″ monitor at a fairly decent price, without sacrificing quality or appearance. While the X241 isn’t cheap it won’t totally empty your pockets.

Here are a few of the technical specifications for the X241WSD:

  • Street Price: $400-500
  • 10000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms response rate
  • 1920 x 1200 maximum resolution
  • 2 DVI with HDCP, 1 VGA

Things I like
This monitor gives you a tonne of real estate to work with. If you’re into video editing or anything graphical you’ll definitely enjoy the 1920×1200 resolution that the X241 gives you. I normally have a dual monitor configuration but because of the Acer 24 Monitorsize I only needed (and could only fit) one of these on my desk. Like Acer’s other monitors, the X241 is of the up-most quality. When I first took it out of the box I was pleased with the look of it and the attention to detail. They include two DVI cables and one VGA cable and while I only needed one DVI cable it was nice just in case.

Things I don’t like
This thing is a monster. Coming in at 17.9″ tall and 22.5″ wide don’t be surprised if this monitor takes up a lot of your desk. It isn’t light either weighing a total of 17.4 lbs. While this is to be expected with a 24″ monitor just don’t be surprised if you buy one. Other than it’s size I really can’t complain about the X241. Acer makes solid monitors.

Pros:

  • Well Built
  • Lots of screen real estate
  • Quick refresh rate

Cons:

  • A little expensive
  • Very Large

Final Thoughts
If you’re in need of a large monitor and don’t want to run a dual-monitor configuration the Acer X241WSD is definitely for you. This monitor has a number of great features and in general is very well designed. I totally recommend it to anyone who needs a new monitor.
