Apple Wireless Keyboard

I am here with another Apple product that didn’t really make the headlines. Wireless products are the choice everywhere and keyboard is no exception. So you bought that uber cool 24″ iMac but don’t want to clutter your desk with wires? Apple wireless keyboard is the perfect answer which was released by Apple last year.

Apple Wireless Keyboard specifications :

  • Color : White
  • Interface : Bluetooth
  • Operating distance : 30ft
  • Battery : 3 AA type
  • OS Compatibility : OS X 10.4.10 or later
  • Approx. Price : $79

As expected, the Apple wireless keyboard supports a cool design. But this time the design adds a lot more to the functionality due to the tilt that it produces which assists you in typing.  The keyboard works via Bluetooth so you don’t even have to plug in a wireless receiver, but just turn on your Mac bluetooth and it will find the keyboard and pair it.

The keyboard works on three AA type batteries. Normal usage can make them last upto 6 months easily. The keys on this are pretty different from what you would find on traditional keyboards. Apple has placed the keys apart and not together which gives it a different look. Also you don’t have to press the keys but just tap them as they don’t go deep.

It has the new function keys for doing various tasks. F1 and F2 control the brightness of your display, F3 is Expose, F4 is for Dashboard while F8 and F12 are dedicated to music. Also the keyboard does not have a numeric keypad which makes it smaller than regular keyboards.

The keyboard also has two USB 2.0 ports which can be used to connect your iPod,mouse etc, nice move by Apple. The keyboard is extremely thin and light weight. Typing on it for hours won’t be as comfortable as some of the highly ergonomic keyboards from Logitech/Microsoft etc.

The keyboard range is large enough at 30 feet and you would not experience any dropped bluetooth connections if you are well within that range. The bottom of the keyboard has been provided with rubberized grips that prevent it from slipping.

Pros :

  • Cool design
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Two USB ports
  • Good range
  • Short in length
  • Function keys

Cons :

  • Not too ergonomic
  • Only Mac compatible
  • No numeric keypad

Final Thoughts

The Apple Wireless Keyboard is a nice addition to the Apple family. Apple has a great job in producing such a thin keyboard with a cool design. Absence of numeric keypad makes it short in length, although some might not like that. USB ports are a good addition too. But if you have to sit and type long hours, then this one might not do the job well. So check it out before buying.

My Rating : 3.5/5
