Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse

Apple is known to make amazing products and even a product as simple as a mouse isn’t left behind. The Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse is an marvelous piece of invention and at first look will seem an utter simplistic mouse. Combining touch sensitivity along with laser technology, the mouse uses bluetooth technology to connect to a Mac.

Apple Mighty Mouse specifications :

  • Connectivity : Wireless
  • Interface : Bluetooth
  • Max. operating system : 30 feet
  • Battery : 2 AA type
  • OS : Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later
  • Programmable buttons
  • Force-sensing side buttons
  • TouchSense Technology
  • Approx. price : $69

The Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse appears very minimalistic and only the scroll bar is visible at first glance. There are no visible buttons as TouchSense Technology has been used to virtualize the buttons. At both the sides, there are a couple of Force-sensing buttons which can be programmed according to your needs. The mighty mouse uses laser sensor to work and connects via bluetooth so there is no hassle of plugging in a receiver also into your Mac.

Setting up Apple products has always been damn simple and so is the case with the mighty mouse. You just need to install the software and turn the mouse on for it to get detected by the Mac. The software doesn’t offer much customisation apart from tweaking the sensitivity and customising the various buttons and scroll wheel.

The laser sensor offers support a wide variety of surfaces apart from enhanced accuracy and movement. Another new invention is the 360-degree scroll wheel. It is a multi-directional scroll wheel that allows you to scroll in all directions, even diagonally. The two force-sensing buttons can act as a third button if pressed simultaneously, although doing that can be a daunting task!

The mouse ergonomics are good and the left and right buttons require just enough touch pressure to accept the input. The problem lies with the Force-sensing buttons which require a bit too much force for my liking. The mouse also is Mac exclusive and can not be used with other desktop/notebook PCs. Once you have set it up to your comfort, then it functions smoothly without any glitches.

Pros :

  • Neat design
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Easy to set up
  • Laser sensor
  • 360-degree scroll wheel
  • Good ergonomics

Cons :

  • Side buttons require too much force
  • Works only with Mac
  • Limited button customization options
  • Expensive

Final Thoughts

The Apple Mighty Mouse is a perfect mouse to buy for your Mac. It gels perfectly with a Mac and offers laser technology, force-sensing buttons, 360-degree wheel and other features to impress Mac users. For others anyway it is useless as it can only be used with a Mac. The only deterring point seems to be its cost which might not go down well with some people.

My Rating : 3.5/5
