The first query is by Jos :
We just had a brand new Asus Eee PC 4G. It’s running on Linux. We wanted to subscribed to Smart Bro’s Wifi services but it won’t run on Linux. The suggestion was to replace the Linux OS with a Window-based one, preferably XP. How do we properly install XP into the unit?
Thanks much.
For starters, Asus EEE PC does not have a optical drive which limits its capability to install Windows XP. Now to get started on to the problem, there are a couple of ways you can go about installing the Windows XP to your Asus EEE PC 4G. But you will need to erase the Linux installation for you to be able to install Windows XP.
The first process is getting an external USB CD-ROM drive and booting the PC from it with Windows XP CD loaded into it. That is the simpler way but finding the external USB CD-ROM drive is not!
So the more preferred method of doing it is making your USB drive bootable and then copying up the Windows XP installation files to the USB flash drive. After doing this you need to boot from the USB drive and continue installing Windows XP the traditional way. But remember that there is a specific process for doing it, googling a bit will give you the direction, a tutorial regarding the same will be put up on this website this week itself.
The second query is by J.C :
hello there!
I’m going to buy a new P.C. so i’m just wondering what is the best P.C set up for our home. pls help me with the good specs, because the best worth to much. i’ve got only enough money for a good performance PC. What motherboard and Processor can i purchase that wont spare to much? (core2 quad is to much)
whats would be the best, external Video card, modem, sound card or internal?
i’m quite confuse what would last for long.
thank you? hope you could help me.
One of the basic requirements when posting such a query is mentioning your budget. It becomes virtually impossible to answer without it. In your case a performance PC can be a gaming PC or a entertainment PC, both have different configuration setups. Anyhow will try to answer your query. I will be assuming that you are on a $1000-12000 budget.
Here is the configuration I would recommend for this budget :
Motherboard : ABiT IP35-E
Processor : Core2Duo E8200 @2.6GHz
Graphics Card : XFX 9600GT
RAM : 2GB DDR-II 667MHz
Hard Disk : Western Digital CavireSE 250GB
PSU : Zebronics/VIP 500W
Optical Drive : LiteON DVD-RW
Keyboard/Mouse : Your choice (Logitech preferably)
Display : Viewsonic 19″ TFT Monitor
Speakers : Creative 5.1 speakers
You can add a sound card if you are going to use this PC to stream music or are very concerned about music quality, otherwise onboard sound is more than enough. Internal graphics card is what you should get and I have already mentioned it. You can add a modem if it is not onboard. This configuration should last a couple of years atleast.
