Digital Camera and Display Query
First query is by Rene Smiths :
Hello…seeking help because of my stupidity! I accidentally put a lithium battery in my Canon EOS Rebel XT and now my digital camera isn’t working at all. There was an awful burning smell after I pried out the battery. When I put in the proper battery, it doesn’t work. Did I kill it? Does anyone know if there’s something I can do? I’ve only had the camera 1 year. Thanks in advance!
You have damaged the internal circuitry of the camera. The burning smell indicates that some part of the camera got more supply than it should have and got short circuited. Although I don’t think you killed the camera but there is a slight chance that you might have.
You should take it to an authorised Canon service center and they would fix it up for you. I don’t know whether this would get covered in the warranty or not, but anyhow they will repair if that’s possible, which is most likely the case.
And yes, in future use only certified batteries in your products
Second query is by Vsheffield :
I use both Mac and PC. How do I connect my HP Pavillion dv6500 notebook PC to a 23” Apple Cinema display monitor?? The screen is black? What am I missing.
Apple Cinema Displays require a DVI-I or DVI-D port for connection to a laptop or a PC. A quick search on the net reveals that HP Pavilion dv6500 notebooks do not have a DVI port. So I wonder, how did you manage to hook up the display to the HP notebook?
The HP Pavilion dv6500 notebooks have the older VGA port for connecting external displays. You need to get a VGA-DVI connector to be able to hook up the Apple Cinema Display to the notebook. The VGA outputs analogue signal while DVI is digital signal. So to convert analogue to digital is tough and hence the converter is expensive. Check out the device here.
Do research more on the net before spending on the connector as there are always incompatibility issues and more so when it comes to Apple products!

@Satyendra
On the PC, it should appear fine. You copied the file and then tried playing it, right?
Also try different media players, and check to see if you have proper codecs installed, though that will unlikely be a problem. On TV, try changing between PAL, NTSC modes.
