The Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 is an ultraportable offering from the company. The notebook is basically an upgrade to the earlier existing Lifebook P7230 which was released last year. Ultraportables laptops are catching the fancy of many travellers in the need for portable laptops and the market is growing at a fast pace.

Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 specifications :

  • Dimensions : 11″ x 8.3″ x 1.6″
  • Processor : 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SL7100
  • Display : 12.1″
  • Memory : 2GB of 667MHz
  • Hard Disk : 120GB, 5400 rpm
  • Graphics : Intel GMA X3100
  • Chipset : Intel 965GM Express
  • OS : Windows Vista Business
  • Approx. Price : $2000

The Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 doesn’t give Macbook Air of the Lenovo ThinkPad X3000 a run for their money. It does not have the slim dimensions or the light weight to grab the attention but still makes for a good companion. You also have the option of going for a lower configuration which saves you $300.

The LifeBook P8010 has its thickness from 1.4″ to 1.6″, the exterior of the laptop has been made of gray color with the keys being black which gives it executive class looks. The lid has been given a glossy black coating. Special features like spill-proof keyboard and hard drive shock protection features are part of this laptop.

The laptop sports a 12″ display which cramps the keyboard for room and hence it takes time getting used to the keyboard due to its rather small dimensions. Fujitsu has also managed to squeeze in a fingerprint reader also in this ultraportable laptop which is positioned between the mouse button, a rather unusual place. The fingerprint reader also doubles up as a scroll wheel which saves space. It also has four programmable buttons and a couple of LEDs indicating the battery life and its charging status.

The display has a resolution of 1280 x 800, good enough for the screen size. The display clarity is good and there isn’t any glare from the display. The processor is fast enough but can not beat the full Core2Duo’s features in the Macbook Air and the ThinkPad X300. The 2GB RAM is good enough for all the applications that you might need to run while on the move. The battery manages a cool 5 hours of backup.

Pros :

  • Good performer
  • Great battery life
  • Good display
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Traveler friendly
  • Good looks

Cons :

  • Cramped keyboard
  • No WWAN support
  • Chassis not made of superior plastic

Final Thoughts

The Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 laptop is a good offering from the company for people in need for ultraportable laptops. It does not offer blazing performance but has almost all the features you would find on the regular laptops. So overall a good choice if you are comfortable enough with the configuration.

My Rating : 3.5/5
