You don’t get to carry your home theater with you due to obvious reasons but all that is set to change with HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook PC.Featuring a monstrous 20″ screen and all the latest hardware this surely will make your heart pulse racing. This certainly is a dream gadget to own keeping its price in mind.
HP Pavilion HDX specifications:
- 2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor X7800
- 4GB, 667MHz DDR2
- 240GB 5,400rpm
- ATI HD2600 XT
- Dimensions: 19.0 x 14.1 x 2.3 inches
- Weight : 7 Kgs
- Windows Vista Ultimate
If that was not enough you can customise the machine yourself to add an optional 1080p display or extend the hard disk capacity to 500GB.The dual hinged display measuring a huge 20.1 inch is more than enough to give you thrilling game experience.HP has integrated Altec Lansing speakers and subwoofers for a “virtual” home theater experience! But carrying around 7 Kgs is not an easy task at all.
The design and colors of this monster is quite similar to Pavilion dv6500 or dv9500 series. The black and the silver have the verve patterns which has become quite a trademark with HP notebook PCs now.The screen can be adjusted to suit your posture and make sure you push it back completely before closing the lid.
The keyboard for a change has a numeric keypad, thanks to the extra space that the screen requires.Above the keyboard you can fine the touch sensitive buttons which has control tasks like opening Quick Play/DVD applications, volume control, media buttons and more. The touchpad is native to HP’s tablet line of PCs and is a pleasure to work with.
Some additional accessories bundled include Remote Control for managing Windows Media Center tasks which snugly fits into its slot on the side.Fingerprint reader and webcam are pretty much standard but the thing that is not is the inclusion of TV-Tuner.
The display clarity of the screen is awesome to say the least.Movie watching or gaming will be truly a refreshing experience on it.HP has made sure that it sets this laptop a class apart by including an eSATA port which is rarely found on a desktop PC too! HDMI port,VGA,S-Video are options available for hooking up external displays.
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT is a DirectX 10 compatible card but HP could have done better by putting a 8600GT to get a better gaming experience out of the notebook. The ATI is good enough to play most games at above average settings so that won’t make hardcore gamers invest in this notebook PC.
The performance of the notebook is amazing to say the least but that takes a toll on the battery. You are likely to extract about 2 hours of battery life with moderate usage. Its disappointing that only 1-year warranty is given away even with this premium laptop. You won’t need to think twice for shelling out extra to protect this monster from abuses.
Pros:
- Huge and brilliant display
- High-end configuration
- e-SATA port
- Optional HD capable display
- Excellent performance
Cons:
- Very expensive
- Bulky
- Not top of line graphics card
Final Thoughts
HP Pavilion HDX is truly a monster but bulkinesss makes it non-portable laptop on a daily basis. The price is definitely on a higher side but this laptop is not for the masses! HP could have done a better job by giving an option for a better graphics card.HDX is truly a multimedia machine and has all the ingredients of being called a portable home theater. So if you don’t mind burning a hole in your pocket then this machine is made for you!
