Kingston is a renowned manufacturer of memory products which include RAM and USB drives. The new Kingston Data Traveler HyperX range of USB drives is very fast and offers good value for money. They are amongst the fastest flash memory solutions on the market while still being quite affordable. The Data Traveler HyperX series is available in capacities ranging from 8 GB to 32 GB. In this review, we check out the Data Traveler Hyper X and see if it is a better option.

Review:

The Kingston Data Traveler HyperX sports a standard design which isn’t very stylish but isn’t bad looking either. It has dimensions of 2.8 x 0.9 x 0.4 inches and weighs just around 12 gms which is amongst the lightest. The body is composed mainly of blue and black rubber and brushed metal. It is very sturdy and will easily last about 3-4 years without a sign of wear and tear. It comes with a sliding USB connector which retracts back into the body, which is very preferable as you don’t have to keep searching for lost caps.

TheKingston Data Traveler HyperX comes in capacities of 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB – the standard sizes available. It is a very fast drive offering superb read / write speeds – about 26 MBps and 16 MBps respectively. It takes just about 2 minutes and 12 seconds to write a 2 GB file, which matches the claimed speeds accurately. It is compatible with all 3 major OSes – Windows XP / Vista, Mac OS X and Linux. It also is Windows Vista Ready Boost compatible. It comes with a 5 year warranty. It is a great option for those looking for a fast drive at an affordable cost.
