Logitech G15 Keyboard Review

Logitech has a long history of making fantastic keyboards and the legacy continues. Logitech G15 keyboard is one of the most popular keyboard to be manufactured by Logitech and that is the prime reason that it has got a revision that makes it even more attractive. The price tag is also very attractive for gamers, so lets see how it performs.

Logitech G15 Keyboard specifications :

  • Connectivity : Wired
  • Interface : USB
  • Buttons Quantity : 6
  • 2.5″ LCD display
  • Multimedia, Programmable keys
  • OS Compatibility : Microsoft Windows XP, Vista
  • Warranty : 1-year limited
  • Approx. price : $100

The Logitech G15 Keyboard got a revision lately but the broad design remains unchanged with only a few cosmetic changes such as a streamlined body with smoother edges and corners. The backlighting of the LED key has been changed from Blue to Orange and same is the case with the LCD. The size has been reduced by a cool 2 inches but that comes at the compromise of 12 G-keys ie. programmable keys, leaving their head count to just 6.

Macro support has been left untouched and you can you can use Logitech’s bundled software to set up your own macros apart from using the built-in macro record key. The 2.5″ LCD on top of the keyboard is called the GamePanel has built-in mini maps on many games including World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 4 etc. There are some plug-ins also available which can be installed for enhancing the productivity of the GamePanel.

The media control buttons around the GamePanel are not touch sensitive now which might not impress everyone. Grooves can be found at the bottom of the keyboard to fit in mouse, keyboard or other wires lying around the keyboard and hence reduce the clutter on the table.

The keys have improved and they offer better response over the previous version.  It surprising to note that Logitech has stuck with USB 1.1 ports on the keyboards in a time when USB 3.0 is soon going to become a standard. Also it would have been better if Logitech has included multiple LED backlit options considering the bumped up price for hardly any new features.

Pros :

  • Smoother design
  • Macro support
  • Better response from keys
  • Orange LED better than Blue
  • Smaller dimensions

Cons :

  • USB 1.1 ports
  • Single backlit color
  • Fewer G-keys
  • No touch sensitive media keys

Final Thoughts

The Logitech G15 Keyboard does offer few improvements over the its predecessor but they do not justify the price hike over the previous model. The design has been given a boost with smoother corners and edges. Macro support is great and keys give better response than before. USB 1.1 ports can not be justified anyhow, and so is the removal of touch sensitive keys. Still it is a great keyboard but offers no reason to upgrade.

My Rating : 3.5/5
