Logitech has always had a strong presence in the high-performance mouse market. They were the first to have a virtually lag free cordless mouse (MX700), the first large company to produce a cordless laser mouse (MX1000), and now the trend continues. Logitech has recently created what they have dubbed as the world’s most advanced mouse.
The Logitech MX Revolution is one very sleek mouse. It’s ergonomic design is extremely nice to look at but also very functional, packing a lot of features in. It features two scroll wheels, front/back buttons and a search button. While the sensitivity of the mouse isn’t up to some gamers standards it is still fairly high.
Here are a few of the technical specifications for the MX Revolution:
- Street price: Less than $100
- Wireless mouse and transceiver
- USB micro-receiver
- Recharging station
- 800 dpi
Things I like
The thing I like best about the MX Revolution is the dual scroll wheels. I haven’t really seen this on other mice, but let me tell you, it’s really nice. The scroll wheel near the thumb works pretty much like alt+tab. You click it, scroll to whichever window you want and then click it again. It comes in extremely handy if you have a number of applications open and don’t want to move your hand off certain keys to hit alt+tab. The other scroll wheel is your average scroll wheel with one extra feature. If you move it slowly it scrolls slowly, if you move it fast it scrolls fast, if you fling it it scrolls in extra fast mode for a few seconds and then slows down, or until you slow it down. This is handy if you’re going through long websites, documents or code.
The other thing I like about the MX Revolution is the design. This thing looks very nice sitting on top of a desk. Some companies will substitute performance for design but Logitech didn’t do that with this wireless mouse. The MX Revolution has a sleek LED that shows you the battery life of your mouse. When the battery life gets low you can put it into the charger and recharge. Now you won’t have to charge it that often since the batteries last for so long (15-20 days).
The software that comes with it is easy to use and install. All of the buttons are configurable and you can even change the configuration on the fly when changing applications.
Things I don’t like
The thing I dislike most about the MX Revolution is its sensitivity. At only 800dpi this mouse certainly isn’t a gaming mouse. While it looks like it could be one it just doesn’t have the precision that is needed. For ever day work it’ll be fine but when you’re in a first person shooter you might miss when you think you’re going to hit.
The other thing I don’t like about the MX is the price. At $100 for just a mouse it is extremely costly considering normally you’d pay $100 - $130 for a mouse and keyboard combo. The search button that comes with the mouse is also awkwardly placed. I think that Logitech should have moved the button so it would be in a more functional place. My final complaint about this mouse is that the receiver isn’t compatible with other Logitech devices as far as I know, if anyone has found any receives that can work with more than one device let us know in the comments below. Having to use a different receiver for your mouse and a keyboard is ridiculous. If anyone knows
Pros:
- Very nice design.
- Dual scroll wheels.
- Excellent battery life and included charger.
- Great software.
Cons:
- Costly.
- Receiver doesn’t work with other Logitech devices.
- Awkwardly placed search button.
Final Thoughts
If you’re not gaming but need a functional, nice looking mouse, the Logitech MX Revolution is for you. This mouse has dual scroll wheels which make scrolling through documents and changing between them a breeze. The design of the mouse is very nice and its batteries will last you a very long time. I fully recommend the Logitech MX Revolution.
