Logitech S510
Over the years, Logitech made great strides in PC peripheral market. Their innovative MX1000 and MX Revolution mice captured the markets attention and won them reputation for making high quality products. Logitech has also made a number of keyboard and mouse combos and that’s what I’m going to review today.
The Cordless Desktop S510 is a quality built, nicely designed wireless keyboard and mouse. It has a number of great features such as media controls, battery indicators on both the keyboard and mouse, and the ability to plug in the receiver through PS/2 ports or a USB port.
Here are a few of the technical specifications for the S510:
- Street price: $50
- Wireless transmitter
- USB to PS/2 adapter
- Fully programmable keys
Things I like
The thing I like most about the S510 is how easy it was to setup. I’ve set it up in both Vista and XP and in both cases it was as easy as plugging it in and letting Windows automatically detect the hardware. If you want the extra functionality like programmable keys you’ll have to install the included software but that isn’t any harder than popping the CD into your drive and launching the install.
I also really like the design of the keyboard. It has a very low profile and it just looks extremely sleek sitting upon my desk. The keyboard is very comfortable to type at because it provides wrist support. I also like how response the keys are. Each time I peck away I hear a very satisfying and click and I know I’ve hit the right key.
Things I don’t like
I don’t like the mouse. Maybe it’s because I’ve spoiled myself with more expensive mice but in my opinion this one just isn’t comfortable or even practical. Its not ergonomically designed and it sits a little awkward in my hands. I also don’t like the fact that there are very few buttons on the mouse. Generally I like to have buttons that’ll do anything I want and this mouse only comes with 3.
If you have a better mouse sitting around you could buy this combo because I think that the keyboard alone is worth the price.
Pros:
- Very nice design
- Easy to install
- Works with Vista!
- Inexpensive
Cons:
- Mouse doesn’t feel right
Final Thoughts
If you have another mouse laying around and want a new keyboard then I suggest that you pick up the Cordless Desktop S510 because the keyboard is very nice. If you need a mouse and don’t want to spend extra on a better one then I suggest that you go with a different keyboard and mouse combo.
