Nokia 5610 XpressMusic Review

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is the latest addition to the Nokia mobile phones. You must have seen this phone in the latest ads released by Nokia and we will see if it manages to fulfill the hype that has been created around it for a while. So is this a perfect mobile phone to gift yourself this new year..Lets find out!

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic Specifications:

  • Dimensions: 98.5 x 48.5 x 17 mm
  • Weight: 111gms
  • 2.2″ TFT QVGA display, 16M colors
  • GPRS,HSCSD,EDGE and 3G compatible
  • Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
  • 3.15MP Camera with Autofocus

Design

The specifications are pretty impressive and so is the design of the phone which is mesmerizing. The phone has been made sporty yet elegant and the ergonomics have not been forgotten. The back panel has been designed to provide better grip. The red strip along the sides contrast with the black finish perfectly. The sliding mechanism is solid and you are unlikely to encounter any problems with it.

Keypad and Display

The keypad has been built keeping ergonomics in mind completely. Its a pleasure to use the keypad with the keys offering good feedback and slider does not hinder them in any way.The NaviSlide key is a major boon as it can be used to launch the radio, main menu, music player. The white lit keys glow only when the slider is open but you won’t need to do that often!

The display does not offer any room for complaints with it offering 16M colors and a big 2.2″ QVGA screen which has great contrast and excellent reproduction of colors. So watching videos or viewing images is going to be a pleasure on it.

Camera,Music Player,OS

The music player supports MP3,MP4,AAC,WMA and AMR file formats. It comes with a set of 7 predefined equalizers and you can also customize one according to your needs. The rest of the features are standard with other Nokia models like creating playlists or arranging your songs. The sound quality is very good and you can bank on it as a standalone music player for your mini party!

The camera is a 3.2MP sensor which has a resolution of 2048 x 1536.The S40 interface limits the camera options but that does not hinder its performance at all and is as good some of the other 3.2MP phones by Nokia like N73.The pictures have apt brightness and deep colors to bring out good pictures.

The phone supports the fifth generation of S40 interface which does bring in a lot of improvements over its predecessor but falls short of OS 9.2. Active standby feature is now included with S40. Phone performance is very good with the menus being fast and responsive and camera startup times very low. Copy, paste is now possible too! But thats where your world ends as you can only install java applications.

Pros:

  • Brilliant display
  • 3.2MP camera
  • Ergonomic keypad
  • FM with RDS
  • Fast performance

Cons:

  • S40 interface
  • Weak LED
  • Not so common microUSB port

Final Thoughts

5610 XpressMusic is a excellent buy if you are looking to buy a slider phone with good camera and excellent music playback options. The phone design is excellent and so is its performance. The camera is above average but it has great music playback. S40 might be its only drawback if you like to call it that way. The current price at around 300 euros I guess is a bit overpriced but no so much so as other Nokia phones like N95 were at launch.

The Nokia 5610 handset is definetely worth its quoted price tag…the highlight of the phone is its camera(3.2 MP) which apart frm reproducing great colours in the snaps also captures video at a frame rate of 30fps.
the lcd screen is capable of displaying 16M colours…needless to say the on screen display n video playback is nothing short of amazing!

As far as Music quality goes this phone takes a berth in the league of SE walkman series…sound reproduction may not be better than the high-end SE phones but definitely best when pitted against other Nokia models(including N series)!
Nokia could have done wonders with this piece if they had provided a better headphone with the package…it sucks to say the least!(i wud suggest u better get urself a spare SE headphone to get a better listening experience)

the phone suffers frm an uncanny problem of ‘Freezing’ when u get a message or a call in the midst of audio playback but that can now b easily rectified by dowloading the latest Firmware updates frm the Nokia website.

Stylish design n decent slider…if u wanna have a nice overall experience of getting crisp images n decent sound quality without making a hole in ur pocket(price ranges frm 12800 to 13500) then go for it!!

I bought this phone (5610) a week ago and still stick to it. It is an amazing phone. Sound quality is very good also camera is wonderful. All the features compare to other SE phones are nice. I bought it for 11,600 (Mumbai). It is really a value for money. The display is also too good.

I bought this 5610 last month while I was in India and the display quit on me also after only 3 weeks! Even worse, nobody here in the United States knows how to fix it because they apparently don’t have the parts and that model isn’t being sold here yet, so I’ve been told. Any suggestions where to send it in for repair? The phone was purchased in Goa, 2 months ago, but I am hoping not to have to send it all the way back to India.

pls don’t buy this model. i bought the model arnd March this year and the display disappeared before i cud even use it 3 months. i took it to the service center and they corrected the problem. told me it was a software problem. but again im having the same problem now. i’ve been using nokia models since 1999 and came to love nokia mobile phones. but not anymore. I’l say Nokia has gone too business oriented, not the least bothered abt customers. So, Nokia SUCKS

It sucks: freezes all the time (you have to take the battry out if you receive a SMS while listening to music)
Battery does not last long and will shut down when signaling half-full.
The music-slider button will fall off your phone at the most incovenient moments.

You can update the firmware to iron out the bugs. This is a great cell phone, but had buggy earlier firmware versions.
Can’t say much about the display going kaput.

we bought a sandisk 8gb for my nokia 5610 and didn’t have any problems until the battery completely drained. now none of our chargers will charge it up at all. the charging screen that usually comes up when the phone is off and charging won’t even come on. we thought it was the phone so we put the 8gb in another 5610 and now the same thing is happening. i found out that i probably needed to update my phone for the 8gb to be compatible but now i cant even get the phone to come on so i can update the firmware on it. any advice please?

I have got the 5610 in jan 2008. After nine months its display went away. i gave it to service center. after 1 month i got it repaired. and now its quite good.

if it comes to buy or not – then i will say if u love pics and music, buy it…..No one is gonna give you a 3.2 mega pixels for that price and that much stylish with 2.2″ QVGA screen. it has 3G network for internet. i have accessed internet on my pc via nokia 5610.
