How To Create a LAN connection between 2 PCs

In this tutorial we see how to connect to computers together to share files and resources. We can go about it either the wired way or the wireless one. But the wireless way is pretty expensive. So in this tut, we consider the wired way.

To do it the wired way, we need either 2 normal ethernet cables and a Hub / Switch. OR a crossover ethernet cable. We choose the 2nd way as it is more cost effective.

To create a LAN network using a crossover cable, we just need a crossover (Cross crimped RJ45 / CAT5) cable and a LAN (Ethernet) card in both computers. Most computer motherboards have onboard ethernet these days.

We refer to the 2 computers as PC1 and PC2.

First of all, we connect the cross crimped ethernet cable in the LAN RJ45 ports of both the computers.
Now we start with configuring the computers. Continue reading ‘How To Create a LAN connection between 2 PCs’

Ask us: Nokia E71 and Network Query

Hardware problemThe first query is by Stephen :

just got the e71 after reading ur review. everything works great as expected except for the following : 1. The easy dialing function doesn’t work on my device…what’s going on? 2. No blackberry connect …thoughts and other workarounds recommendation ?

Glad that our review helped you in making your decision easier. Coming to your first query about Easy Dialing, Nokia did not enable that feature in many handsets. I am not sure if Nokia did enable it in some handsets, so nothing can be done about it.

It is very sad that Blackberry Connect is not available for the latest E-series and there are very slim hopes that it does indeed become available anytime soon. There are a couple of alternatives like Seven Email that offer Push email that you can try out. There is also this Nokia Email thing that you can try out. But they are not as good as Blackberry connect.

How To Slipstream SATA Drivers Into XP CD

After the death of Windows XP, almost all notebook PCs come with Windows Vista pre-installed. But if you like Windows XP more than Windows Vista then a simple Windows XP wouldn’t suffice for installing it on your notebook PC. If you BIOS has an option to change your hard disk mode from SATA to IDE then you can just pop in the good old Windows XP CD and get it set up within minutes. But if it doesn’t, then you have to do it the other way as mentioned below.

You will just be requiring the Windows XP CD and a few softwares and stuff that I will tell you as we go along. You might ask just why wouldn’t a normal XP CD do the task? The answer is pretty simple. The original Windows XP CD does not have SATA drivers so it can’t detect your hard drive during the installation process. The solution is simpler. Just slipstream them into the CD! So lets begin.

Step 1 :  Download and install nLite

This is an amazing software that lets you tweak and hack your XP CD to the core with an extremely easy to use UI. Download and install the software from here.

Step 2 : Download SATA drivers

You need to get your hands on the SATA drivers next, that you will need to slipstream into the CD. Although there are different version based on your motherboard that you can search them on Intel website or download the standard ones here, which work with most of the motherboards. After downloading extract the driver and remember the location.

Why the iPhone 3G is still a great buy

Following our “ Top 5 iPhone 3G killers ” and ” 7 reasons why the iPhone 3G sucks ” article and the volume of rather harsh criticism we have received, we would like to state that we are not in any way Apple haters. It is just that we prefer calling a spade a spade. We would like to point out that though the iPhone 3G does miss out on a lot of features, it’s not all bad. Some of the features that it does have, have been implemented in such a mind blowing way that they redefine the way people perceive them. They have been largely instrumental in helping it build up the very large fan following it commands.

We would try to list some of the things Apple has done incredibly right with the iPhone and why it has managed to capture a decent portion of the smartphone market despite its flaws.

1. The UI :
Apple has implemented the best touchscreen user interface ever, in the iPhone 3G. It has completely done away with the need to use a stylus to navigate around the phone. The power now lies with your fingers. The MultiTouch interface is incredibly easy to use and fun to play with. You can tap, pinch, slide your fingers around the applications in the iPhone with ease giving you the best touch experience in a smartphone. The iPhone has a very minimal interface with just one button - Home, which allows you to minimize Apps and return to the Home Screen, making it very simple to navigate around the phone features.
