  • HDD Speed: 7,200 RPM
  • Cache: 16 MB
  • Interface: Hi speed USB 2.0, PnP

  • Review:

The Simpletech (Re) Drive is a new external hard drive with a refreshingly new simplistic design which is eco friendly as well- it sports a body made of renewable bamboo and recycled aluminium. The design looks very simple yet appealing. Atleast the environmentalists will definitely like this one. It has dimensions of 4.8 inch x 7.5 inch x 1.6 inches which are not exactly compact.

To use the drive, you just need to plug it into your computer and no additional setup is required. If you are using a Windows PC, you can install the Turbo USB 2.0 software for substantially faster speeds. To use it with a Mac, you need to format the drive to the HFS+ format. The drive also comes with Arcsoft Totalmedia backup software to backup all your data.

The Simpletech (Re) Drive is also very power efficient and automatically switches off when the PC goes in sleep mode. The data transfer speeds are also decent about 150 Mbps in the normal mode and jump by about 10 – 15 Mbps when Turbo USB 2.0 is used. They are more or less the same as other external hard drives. It doesn’t have Firewire or eSATA connectors which is quite a negative as most other drives do provide more connectivity options.

    Pros:

  • Nice Design
  • Eco Friendly
  • Turbo USB 2.0
  • Cons:

  • No Firewire or eSATA
  • Our Rating: 3 / 5.
