Sony Vaio AW125J Review


Laptops were portable computers, till Sony introduced their 18″ monster laptop Sony Vaio Aw125J. The new 18″ design has a lot of advantages over the obvious disadvantages of size and weight. The display supports full HD resolution and has a 16:9 aspect ratio, perfect for cinema experience.

The Sony Vaio Aw125J has a 18″ display screen with full HD resolution that is the main feature of the laptop. Also it has a 16:9 aspect ratio not commonly found on laptops. Another important feature is the integrated Blu-ray drive at a competitive price tag.

The design of the laptop is similar to other Vaio series laptops that have a gray-black color scheme. The keyboard has widely spaced flat keys separated from each other. The AC adapter slot is found on the left hinge of the display while the right hinge has the power button.

Above the keyboard sit pretty the touch sensitive media control buttons. The volume control is above the numeric keypad though. The display on the laptop is truly amazing and is perfect for movie viewing experience or gaming. The laptop has a couple of card slots for Memory sticks and Compact Flash card slot.

Sony has included the latest graphics card from Nvidia ie. GeForce 9600M GT in the monster to truly utilize it to its full potential. The inclusion of Blu-ray drive at this price tag in a Sony Vaio is truly amazing and was least expected. Some of the other features include an integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam. On the port front, it has 3 USB 2.0 ports, a mini Firewire port, VGA port and a HDMI port.

The performance of the laptop is very good. The Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 handles processor intensive tasks with ease. 4GB RAM is fully utilized by 64-bit Microsoft Vista Home Premium that is the default OS loaded on the 320GB hard disk. The battery life however is less at 2 hours on normal usage.

Final Thoughts

The Sony Vaio Aw125J has a 18.4″ display supporting full HD resolution and comes with an integrated Blu-ray drive. The performance of the laptop is good and the price tag is comes at makes it a steal. Sony Vaio’s are not priced competitively but this one surely is. Grab this one fast before stocks dry up!
