Vista SoundMax Drivers, RAM and Laptop Query
The first query today is by Susan Elliot,
I have Altec Lansing speakers and subwoofer which were all working fine. Then I downloaded iTunes 8 and setup an iTouch. There was no sound and I had to reinstall Soundmax. Now I have sound with very little volume and huge static. I checked all the settings. It says they are all working fine. I checked cords to speakers and computer. All fine. I connected the speakers to my other computer running XP and no problem. The first computer is running Vista.Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am computer friendly but definitely not a tech.
Hey Susan,
You have narrowed down the problem correctly down to Windows Vista. Windows Vista doesn’t have a compatible driver for Soundmax integrated audio yet. You can try downloading the latest Soundmax drivers from Soundmax’s website or from the manufacturer’s website but we don’t expect it would help you much. You can also try installing the drivers in the XP Compatibility mode. You can also go to your nearest service center and ask them for the latest Vista compatible drivers. If nothing works out, we would suggest that you switch to another operating system till all the driver incompatibilities in Vista are fixed, preferably to Windows XP.
The second query is by Vineet,
Where can I buy RAM?
Hi Vineet,
From your friendly neighbourhood hardware store.
The last query is by Rathi samuel,
What is the Price of a laptop with the foll. configuration and where do I get it in Chennai.
300 GB or more SATA HDD
2-3 GB DDR Ram
Centrino 2 processor
DVD RX
Nvidia 8+ series 256/512 MB
Hey Samuel,
You should get a laptop with more or less the same configuration in the range of Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 55,000.
I would personally recommend you a Dell Studio 14 or a Dell Studio 15. You should get a normal laptop with an Intel Centrino 2 Duo P8400, 3 GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM, 320 GB SATA HDD, 15″ Display, and 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 which delivers the best value for money graphics performance for around Rs. 49,000. You can check out the full specifications here and order it online.
Keep Asking.
